Simon Boyle

Simon first developed an interest in shoulder and elbow problems after dislocating his own shoulder whilst playing rugby in 1990. He went on to train in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery, and this injury ultimately inspired him to specialise in shoulder and elbow disorders.

Simon is available to see patients at the Nuffield Hospital York, Nuffield Hospital Leeds and Clifton Park Hospital York

Training

Simon graduated in Medicine from the University of Leeds in 1997 and completed his surgical training in Yorkshire and Australia. In 2009, he was privileged to be selected to spend a year undertaking a shoulder surgery fellowship with Dr Laurent Lafosse in the worlds leading shoulder arthroscopy unit in Annecy, France. This gave him a unique experience in pioneering shoulder surgery techniques for pathologies including rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability (dislocations), sports injuries, impingement pain and shoulder stiffness (frozen shoulder and arthritis). Whilst in France, Simon became the first UK surgeon to perform the complex arthroscopic Latarjet shoulder stabilisation procedure.

On his return to the UK, Simon spent a further year in the prestigious Wrightington Upper Limb Unit working with Professor Len Funk, Professor Ian Trail and Mr John Haines. Here he further refined his clinical knowledge and surgical skills. Simon has been a Consultant in Shoulder and Elbow surgery since 2010. His NHS practice is based in York and his private practice is based in York and Leeds.

Testimonials

A big thank you to Simon and his team for their care, patience and perseverence looking after me through all stages of both shoulder and elbow surgery.
Since the shoulder stabilisation I have continued my sailing and fitness training without the worry that my shoulder might dislocate; and I don’t have to think twice whether my ulnar nerve will hinder any progression in my sports.
With their amazing help, I’ve been able to get back to sailing competatively and am now a double National champion.

KM, N.Yorkshire

Simon successfully operated on my frozen left shoulder in 2012 with fantastic results. This year he has overseen and advised treatment for my frozen right shoulder (via hydrodilation injection). His unrivalled experience in orthopaedic shoulder treatments, coupled with his reassuring bedside manner and excellent results, gave me huge confidence throughout. I’m hugely grateful to have my quality of life back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his services. Thank you Simon.

I had PRP injections into my right elbow last year and within 3 months I was pain free, a year on it is more or less 100% better.  Fabulous I would recommend it to anyone with Tennis Elbow, in fact I have gone back again this year to get my left elbow done.  Thanks Simon.

DM York

Thank you to Mr Boyle and team for the excellent care and attention both before and after Replacement Shoulder surgery, using the Tornier Simpliciti procedure. After very many months of severe pain and lack of movement I was pain free from day one.  Now, after nine weeks, the shoulder and arm movement continues to improve, beyond expectation, with physiotherapy and exercise. I am extremely grateful for all the continuing care.

AJG, York

Simon Boyle is an excellent surgeon who has enabled me to return to full fitness after my shoulder surgery. I had spent about ten months unable to throw and in constant pain. Thanks to Simons fantastic work and post surgery care, I have been able to return to full coaching duties with Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

I would highly recommend Simon to anybody suffering in the way that I was. He was extremely thorough and professional at all times and always made time to explain everything that was going to happen.
